The importance of movement - how to get unstuck and flow again

Humans consist of an avarage of 60 percent water, which means that more than half of our body is fluid. For me already this alone is the reason why we are made to move and to flow in life. If water doesn't move anymore it is because it is frozen. If we feel stuck, scared or somehow uncomfortable we, metaphorically speaking, have the tendency to freeze as well.

Humans used to be nomads, moving around with nature's cycles using what the land has to offer. Only now, that we are usually tied to one place we tend to hold on to our routines and are often afraid of change. Many people associate change with a lack of security as the future seems unpredictable and intimidating. I can assure you that the future is always unpredictable and the false sense of security that a 'planned' life brings with it is only created in your head. Most of us think that if we have everything figured out we are in control and as a conclusion nothing bad can happen to us. This is the mind creating a concept that gives you a safe feeling maybe for a little while but it is nothing real. We will never be certain about what can happen and within a blink of an eye our whole life could change no matter what we have planned.

A feeling of being stuck in life often comes from resisting change and moving on when it is time. Staying in a job or relationship that makes us miserable or living in a place where we don't feel comfortable only because it seems to be the reasonable, safe option will not makes us happy. Feeling stuck somehow makes moving on seem more scary then the mind wants to hold on to the familar even stronger. If we are stuck in a cycle like this it is necessary to start moving again. I know how hard that can be but again, it is only your mind telling you that it is hard. Your mind pretends to know the future and wants you to believe that if you stick to the plan you are safe. Don't believe everything your mind tells you.

Our bodies are designed and made to be in motion. Through physical movement it also is much easier to 'get out of your head' and stop overthinking. Moving the body helps to connect with it and grounds you. If you seem to be stuck, starting to move is the first step to get out of that funk. By moving the body you give your mind the signal that it is safe to move in general. It helps you losen up, brings fresh wind into a situation and can give you new ideas or insights. Simply going for a walk is already a great way to get unstuck. Going on a trip, taking a class learning something new or changing to a healthier lifestyle seems like a small step but this can be the start of something big. When you take action you soon realize that movement is something positive and you lose the fear of change. We never know what the outcome of a situation is but only through movement, by 'getting out there' you create the possibility for something great to happen. Of course, as always balance is the key. Don't force yourself, but if you have a good feeling about something and you know it can be positive for you, give yourself a little push in order to avoid stagnation out of fear.

Traveling is one of my favourite ways to move. To get to know different cultures and different energies a country has to offer has helped me many times. When I travel I can be more present and either I appreciate what I have or where I live even more or it inspires me to move again and opens possibilities that I haven't even thought of. Travel as much as you can, it is worth every cent. It made me see or feel how beautiful it is to go with the flow and to move fluidly through life. To take on challenges and see that nothing is impossible and everything can be solved are lessons you will learn through traveling. Many people who travel a lot have told me that they changed so much in a very short time. The experiences that traveling to foreign countries bring with it can make you grow in such an incredible and unique way. There is not much else that can be compared to that.

As mentioned above we are water, we are meant to move and to flow. Water doesn't have to stop if there is an obstacle in the way. By being flexible, letting go of control and finding a way around it - and through what seems to be a detour, this new path can bring magical and amazing experiences. Don't be afraid of change, it can bring so many opportunities - we never know what is good or bad. A seemingly negative situation can have a positive outcome, be aware how you judge a situation and whether your thoughts are positive or negative because they create your reality. Use the element water if you feel stuck - have a shower, swim in the ocean and jump into the lake. Dare to move, make small or big waves and flow smoothly through life. And don't forget to stay hydrated.
